She reveled in the mystery
the fluid face reflecting,
staring into her own eyes,
knowing something was staring back.
But no matter what she said she saw,
she did not see him there.
He was hidden behind the lingering gaze,
pulling strings like a marionette.
He was and wasn’t there,
both a figment and a man,
but because she could not notice him
she was easy to keep hidden.
